We believe a well-bred Caucasian Shepherd should be more than striking. The dog should have the ability to work, think, adapt and remain deeply loyal to the people and animals in its care.
Our dogs are raised on land with livestock and family exposure. That gives us the opportunity to watch temperament develop in real situations rather than trying to judge a guardian breed only by appearance.
We take the health and wellbeing of our puppies seriously and remain available to puppy families after their dogs leave Brotherbear Acres.

Brotherbear Acres is a family-owned breeding program focused on the qualities that make the Caucasian Shepherd distinctive: structure, intelligence, confidence, loyalty, guardian instinct and the ability to live with purpose.
Our puppies are hand-raised with exposure to different environments, people and animals. Early socialization is not about turning a guardian into a different breed; it is about helping a powerful, independent dog develop confidence, judgment and appropriate boundaries.
We continue working to improve our breeding program while protecting the traits that drew us to the Caucasian Ovcharka in the first place.

How We Do It
The first days and weeks matter.
We prioritize socialization scenarios, sounds and frequent handling so puppies are better prepared for interactions with humans, other dogs and other animals.
That early experience happens alongside the influence of mature dogs. Young Caucasian Shepherds have opportunities to observe older guardians, learn boundaries and begin developing the calm confidence expected from a serious working breed.
We also watch the puppies as individuals. Some show stronger livestock interest; others may be better suited to a different kind of property or family environment. Placement should reflect the dog in front of us rather than forcing every puppy into the same mold.
Future Family Members
More than a puppy leaving the farm.
We want each Caucasian Shepherd to become a valued member of the family or working property it joins — and we want the people taking one home to understand the responsibility that comes with the breed.
Purchasing a puppy is a significant financial and emotional commitment. We work to make the process clear, answer questions honestly and remain a resource after a puppy goes home.

Our experience with Caucasian Ovcharkas begins.
Our family began raising and living with Caucasian Shepherds in 2015, years before Brotherbear Acres became the working farm it is today.
Brotherbear Acres becomes a working Northern Michigan farm.
When we established our farm, the breed’s guardian instincts became part of everyday livestock management and protection from wild predators.
The dogs live the environment we breed them for.
Family, livestock, land, weather and working guardian responsibilities continue to shape what we value in our dogs and breeding program.

We are a family of five raising livestock with a sustainable, organic and humane approach to animal husbandry. Our experience with Caucasian Ovcharkas began in 2015.
When we established our farm in 2020, the breed's guardian instincts and role in helping protect livestock from wild predators made the Caucasian Shepherd our top choice among livestock guardian dogs.
